The English department is proud to announce that we will be taking part in an inaugural event: ‘The Marcellin College Literature Tour of England and France’. This is a very exciting opportunity for students who are in Years 9-11 students in 2014 to travel to the other side of the globe and to learn about some of the greatest writers of all time! We will also visit the famous landmarks of these two historical countries while experiencing the inspirational surroundings that have contributed to some of the most amazing stories which have decorated the world of literature.
The trip will be from the 17th September to the 4th October 2014 and will run the term break, so there’s plenty of time to prepare and refresh before Term 4 begins. The accommodation includes staying at hotels and for the majority of the trip there will be access to a tour guide and we will be assigned our own coach. However, there are also opportunities to ride the famous London tube and the Paris Metro. Highlights of the tour include a show at West End, the views from the top of the Eiffel Tower, the Jack the Ripper walk, a trip to the scenic Lake District to learn more about the Bronte sisters and a visit the Harry Potter museum. Of course, a literature tour is never complete without a stopover at Stratford–upon-Avon to experience the land of Shakespeare….and a lot more!
On the 14th November at 7pm in the Lecture Theatre, students and parents who are interested are to attend a brief information session. The evening will detail some of the key dates, options of payment, parent information etc.
As a minimum, this tour has been designed to provide students with an exceptional experience to assist with their thinking and creative abilities. This is truly an amazing opportunity!
